Johnny Max Wilson, 72, of Victoria, passed away October 27, 2019. He was born in Ralls, Texas to Hoyt and Lillian Wilson, on May 17, 1947. He and Sherry Voss were married on August 3, 1968, and were married for 51 years. They had three children, Lisa (Mark) Piwonka, David Wilson, Christopher (Kim) Wilson; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Alexander, Spencer and Caroline Piwonka, and Liliann Wilson; one sister, Sue Free and a niece, Rhonda Free. He is preceded in death by parents Hoyt and Lillian Wilson; Bernie Free (brother-in-law); and Randy Free (nephew). Johnny was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He loved the church, and was a true and faithful servant.
Johnny graduated with a Music degree from Texas Tech in 1969, and began his Ministry the same year in Slaton, Texas. He then served in La Marque and Clear Lake, before being called to serve as Minister of Music and Youth at Baptist Temple Church in December, 1973. This year, would have marked his 46th anniversary on December 9th.
During his years at BTC, he produced and directed many musical productions and led close to 40 Youth Mission Trips. He also produced and directed radio and t.v. broadcasts for the church. He was devoted to the church in all capacities, and always worked diligently to fulfill his calling. He was very grateful to so many in his life who helped him throughout his years in the Ministry. Johnny touched the lives of many during his years of service both at the church, within the community, and those who he encountered during mission trips and music conferences. He also served on the VISD School Board as a board member, and as President.
Johnny loved his family, his church family, and all of his many friends with true devotion. He had a passion for music, photography, travel, and all things Christmas. In fact, he was already working on his Christmas program for the coming year. He will be missed so dearly by all who knew and loved him. His hope would be for all to know Christ and serve him.
Thank you to all who have shown support to the family during this time through visits, prayers, calls, and meals. There has been an incredible outpouring of love and consideration, which means more to the family than words can express.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Rosewood Funeral Home in Victoria, Texas. Services will be on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Baptist Temple Church, located at 1804 N. Laurent, Victoria, Texas, with a luncheon to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
