He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, with tours in Africa and Italy. After his discharge in 1946, he married Henrietta Simons April 20, 1948, in Robstown, Texas. Moving to Victoria in 1953, together they raised 3 children. He considered his family the most important thing in his life. They shared 52 wonderful years together before she passed in 2000.
He worked for Transcontinental Gas & Pipeline as a maintenance Superintendent, retiring after 35 years, in 1986. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Parish and was a 3rd Degree Knight with Knights of Columbus Council 1329 for 65 years. He was a council member of Boy Scout Troop 364 until 1970. He loved to travel and visited almost all of the states in the Continental U.S. However, his pride and joy was his small ranch in Fannin. He spent most of his spare time working on the ranch and did so until late in his life. This was his “therapy”. Leroy loved life and always overcame life’s trials with a smile.
Leroy is survived by his three children, daughters, Barbara A. Halepaska (Tom) of Victoria, Mary M. Maikoetter of Denver Colorado, and son, James E. Maikoetter (Dottye) of Port Lavaca.
