Leslie Margarete Northcutt peacefully passed in Austin, TX on January 31, 2026 at age 97. She was preceded in death by parents, Oron and Bessie Atkins; husband, Frank Northcutt; and siblings, Jackie Atkins, Howard Atkins, Sr. and Jean Spark. She is survived by children, Dr. Alan Northcutt (Candy), Kelly Standley (Ty) and Melanie Cox (Tim); former daughter-in-law, Gemma Lopez; grandchildren, Dr. Noelle Northcutt, Alysse Traverso, Adrian Northcutt, Roxanne Tarrant, Adam Standley, Scott Standley, Christopher Cox and Benjamin Cox; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Margarete was born October 8, 1928 in Hayden, AZ and grew up in Boling, TX. She attended SW Texas State and was a percussionist in the band, marrying Frank Northcutt in 1950. They were active in First Baptist Church Point Comfort, and Baptist Temple Church. They were co-founders of Bluebonnet Dulcimer Club, Camping Club members, and travelled extensively after retirement in their camper and on cruises. Margarete volunteered at Christ’s Kitchen, played piano, loved cards/dominoes, brightened nursing homes playing dulcimer, and was still dancing into her 90s. She was a loving, supportive wife, mother, and grandmother, and proudly attended the graduations of all her grandchildren across the country.
A family celebration of Margarete’s life will be held later. Memorial donations may be sent to Christ’s Kitchen Victoria, TX.
