Maureen “Boo” Toonen Leal, 60, of Victoria passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016 after a short battle with cancer. Maureen was born May 15, 1956 in Brownsville, TX to the late Harold and Patricia Mullins Toonen. An avid lover of the beach and of her adopted cats and dogs, “Boo,” as both friends and family called her, was a loving mother and wife who did everything she could to care for her family, both two-legged and four. In her 18 years with Texas State Low-Cost Insurance, she prided herself on putting the needs of her clientele before anything else. Always lending a shoulder to lean on when a person was despaired, and an ear for their concerns, there were countless customers who considered her more than just an insurance agent, and more like a therapist or a second mom; always offering guidance to help them out with any issue, no matter how major or minor. She loved to cook. Cooking was a stress reliever for her and brought out her creative side. She was a long time Astros fan, loved the Aggies and music, and could talk for hours about politics.
Maureen is survived by her life partner, Tracy L. Steves; son, Michael Elliott Leal of Victoria; sisters, Sharon (Mark) Valentin of Arlington, Lynn Toonen of Wichita, KS; nephews, Matt (Misty) Valentin of Arlington, Andy Valentin of Arlington, Patrick Martin of Kansas, Brian Martin of Kansas, Matthew Seiler of Austin; nieces, Morgan Seiler of Alpine, Emily Steves of Houston, Lindsey (Kevin) Marcum of Celina and Ashley Schilhab of Houston.
