Rose Marie Jacobs, 96, of Victoria, Texas passed away on December 13, 2025 in San Antonio, Texas surrounded by her daughters. She was born on August 29, 1929 in Yoakum, Texas to Matilda Orsak Baros and Edward Joseph Baros.
Rose Marie is survived by her two only children, Judy Cheatham (Hal) and Wanda Novosad (Norman). She is also survived by one sister, Martha Valenta and her only brother-in-law, David Pratka as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Jacobs and three of her sisters, Barbara Pratka, Polly Roznovsky and Bernice Drost.
Rose Marie lived in Victoria for most of her life. She and Bill had a rich and full life raising two daughters. She also had the opportunity to work outside the home at various points in her life. A dear friend owned the franchise for the S&H Green Stamp Center and she worked there for many years. Later she worked at the Fine Art Showroom when artist Dalhart Windberg had many of his paintings there.
Rose Marie was an avid sports fan and loved her Texas football and baseball teams. She had her favorite NASCAR drivers and PGA golfers. Every weekend afternoon she could be found watching one of her favorite sports with her cat Uno in her lap. He was her constant companion for many years. Rose Marie was a lifelong devout Catholic and belonged to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for decades. She loved participating in the annual fall festival helping to serve food and visiting with friends and family.
In 2023 Rose Marie’s daughters moved her to San Antonio to be closer to them. She was cared for by two wonderful and loving caregivers. She loved them like family and they doted on her. Her daughters spent almost every day with her until her passing.
The services for Rose Marie will include a brief visitation at Colonial Funeral Home at 1801 E. Red River in Victoria on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 from 9-9:30am. A reciting of the Rosary will follow at 9:30am. The burial will be at Memory Gardens located 8819 US Highway 87, Victoria, Texas immediately following the Rosary. The pallbearers are Mike Venglar, Daniel Roznovsky, Michael Tumlinson, Norman Novosad, Edward Drost, and James Drost.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Rose Marie’s memory may be made to the Dorothy O’Connor Pet Adoption Center in Victoria. Rose Marie had many pets over the years. Most were rescues and she was a true animal lover.
