

Roy Wise, age 89, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012. He was born October 28, 1922 in Robstown, Texas to the late Ernest E. and Elsie Hercik Wise. Roy married Edith Robinson on January 14, 1948. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Austwell.
Roy owned and operated Wise Oil Company. He distributed oil and gas to various businesses and farmers in the area, and also sold parts and supplies for their tractors. He was also a farmer in the Austwell area.
He served as the first Mayor of Austwell for eight years and also served at the Fire Chief. He was a board member for the Refugio County Drainage District. He enjoyed fishing and baseball, and was the pitcher for the Austwell City team in the minor leagues. He served in the United States Navy during WWII.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Wise Gyllenband of Victoria; son, Ted William Wise and wife Andrea of Victoria; sisters, Jean Parker of Robstown and Dorothy Wilson of Ingleside; brothers, Harvey Wise and wife Deanie of Tivoli, Glen Wise of Port Lavaca, and Clyde Wise and wife Levie of Ingleside; and four grandchildren, Hailey Gyllenband, Rev. Matt Wise and wife Amy, Jamie Wise, and Heather Gyllenband.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edith Robinson Wise; sister, Meryl Putnam; and brother, J. B. Wise.
Visitation will be held 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Colonial Funeral Home in Victoria. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am Monday, July 23, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Austwell with the Rev. June Cantrell and Rev. Matt Wise officiating. Burial will follow at the Tivoli Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Dennis Wise, Bruce Wise, Gerald Wise, Dale Wise, Richard Parker, and Les Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers, Harvey, Glen, and Clyde.
