Shirley Ann Chatel

Shirley was an active member in First Lutheran Church in El Campo where she met her husband of 41 years, Lionel Francis Chatel. They were married at First Lutheran Church on February 14, 1982. Shirley earned her certificate as an LVN and worked as an LVN in Houston and El Campo. She was a house painter for many years and then worked as a secretary for Lionel’s business, Matagorda Two-Way. She was an avid collector of many things, she had an extensive collection of Beanie Babies, angels and plants, which she needed a bigger porch for all the plants she brought home. She loved yoga and tried to live a healthy and holistic life. Shirley had a special place in her heart for dogs and babies and they all loved her back. Her contagious laugh will be missed by many.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Lionel; daughters, Shanda Kay Lesak of Houston, Kareen Chatel Hickman (Tim) of Omaha, NE, Frances Eileen Chatel Seman of Dallas, Kathee Love (Ryan) of Linden; sons, Mark Lesak (Janet) of Victoria, Lionel Francis Chatel III (Margaret) of Midland, Justin Christopher Cerny of Houston; sister, Mary Frances Gerberman of El Campo; brothers, Leslie Hermansen (Donna) of El Campo, John Mosely (Janet) of Corpus Christi; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Martha Ann Chatel and brother-in-law, George Gerberman.

Visitation for friends will be Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 1-2 PM at First Lutheran Church in El Campo. Funeral services will follow at 2 PM with burial at Swedish Lutheran Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Mark Lesak, Lionel “Little Lionel” Chatel, Chad Lesak, Jacob Chatel, Leslie Hermansen, John Mosely, Brett Gerberman and Scott Blackburn.

Memorial donations may be made to Houston Hospice El Campo in Shirley’s name.
