I'm very sad to hear of Siv's passing.  Over the years we had many discussions, esp when I was working in Jamaica and with the Latin America plants.  I always appreciated the different perspectives Siv brought.  And a walking encyclopaedia of refining (and cricket).

I'll always remember Oom Siv for his long and enduring friendship with my father, Chanakya (Chuck) Misra, and for his great humor, patience, and how much he cared about his family and friends.  He and Ganga Aunty were very close with my parents for decades.  I recall his home on Presque Isle Drive in Plum borough, PA, where my family first stayed when we moved to the USA when I was very young.  Thank you, Oom Siv, for all the love and laughter you shared.   You will be missed.  My deepest condolences to his sons and his extended family; may you find comfort in your memories during this difficult time.

Friend of 70 yrs. Classmates as Undergraduate and Room mates as Post graduate students. Whenever he came to India he visited us in Bangalore,  Bombay,Madras or Coimbatore. We visited and stayed overnight with him n Ganga in Victoria in 2001 and they dropped us back in Houston at our son's house. The sibling recollections of an incomparable brother cannot be encompassed in 2000 characters. Every association carries with it a tale of loving and giving, of fun and laughter. A crooner par excellence, a past master of anecdotes, a world traveller, he spread joy like the sun its rays or flowers their fragrance. It came naturally to him. A brother like no other. That is our Chinnanna, as we fondly called him. A caring son, a doting spouse, a friend to die for, a unique human being. Not a mean bone in his body. While my head tells me he's out of his private hell, the heart says otherwise. There's a huge void which will always remain empty. We lost him before actually losing him. On the other hand, we will never lose him. He'll always be there, an indelible lesson on how to be human, to be magnanimous by habit and not effort. Will forever feel blessed to have received so much of his love and affection and have a storehouse of cherishable memories.  A flood that cannot be dammed. Dear Siva Anna. Although I did not have the privilege of spending long periods with you, the brief time that we met left an indelible impact on me. What I experienced even in those brief moments, was a larger than life personality with an infectious laugh, generosity and an incredible heart. Thank you for showing up in our lives and enriching it.

We were so saddened to learn of Siv’s passing.  He was a lifelong friend beginning with our shared Alcoa days in Suriname.  We enjoyed working and personal relationships over the years especially after his marriage to Ganga.
Siv was a mental giant with a quiet spoken, caring  demeanor for family and friends.  They complimented each other !  We will miss them both very much.

Shiva Anna was always very dear to us. He came to visit me just a couple of months after I arrived in the USA, though the only time he had seen me before was when I was a year old. From then on, he was present at every important milestone in my life, always checking in on us with care. He will be deeply missed, and his passing, which took place on the sacred day of Ekadashi, brings solace to know that he has found a blessed place in heaven.

My enduring memory of Siva-mama, the uncle my partner had so fondly described before I first met him, was him using his leg-braces and walking aids, and with considerable difficulty and discomfort, climbing the narrow stairs of our Boston walk-up. One would have thought that, at the end of this laborious journey he so kindly made to just to see us, he would have been exhausted, tired and with low-energy. And one would have thought wrongly, for not knowing Siva-mama well enough! The first thing he did... upon getting into our walk-up was... to crack a joke about mountains... and the second thing he did was to guffaw at his joke, filling the entire house with joy. 

This was Siva-mama in a nutshell... a constantly positive and kind person without regard to any pain or discomfort to himself. I shall cherish having had the chance to meet such an admirable soul.

I am very sorry to hear of Siv's passing, and I want to extend my prayers and condolences to his family.       Siv was my first boss at Alcoa, many years ago at ATC in Pittsburgh.    I continued to work with him on-off over the years during his time Jamaica, Pt Comfort and Australia. 

 He was smart and dedicated and loved technical discussions.    I'll always remember his 'unique' sense of humor, and his ability to laugh (heartily) at his own jokes!

Siv was a dear friend and a professional guru. We go back a long way and it's hard for me to imagine a world without him. A very kind gentleman with a big heart and a great sense of humour: humour in every sentence and humour out of every sentence one uttered. He loved people, and loved connecting people. Siv and Ganga will be sadly missed by their many friends in Perth.

Siva came into our lives when he married Ganga who was my wife's aunt. When he and Ganga moved to Victoria, Texas, we were able to visit them and I was able to spend more time getting to know him. His knees were starting to trouble him but I dimly remember going to the tennis court with him in Victoria. 
Siva had friends everywhere. When Siva and Ganga visited us in Dallas about six years ago, we went with him to visit a friend and ex-colleague of his, Sri  Lakshminarayana, who was a trustee of a very large Hanuman temple in Frisco. I benefitted from listening to their reminiscences and a visit to the Hanuman temple.
I enjoyed listening to Siva's stories about his experiences. I thought that they would make a very interesting book about an outstanding life. He was a very good person who lived a good life and brought happiness to many people. Siva was a blessing.

It was a pleasure to have worked with him. So smart, and also very pragmatic. My daughters thought he was special too - they used to do drawings for him….

May and I visited Ganga and Siva in Victoria, Texas and they were such kind and hospitable hosts.  Her cooking was amazing.  We too had the pleasure of hosting them albeit briefly.  May did keep in touch with them via email, but in recent years got no responses to messages, cards etc.  and we often wondered why the silence.  Now your email has sadly confirmed what we thought might have been the case – health reasons and a sad ending.  May they both rest peacefully together now.  They will be missed but remembered for sure.

Siv was a real gentleman. I remember him fondly. He used to come into my office at Kwinana Western Australia to chew the fat over process issues. We would solve all of the world's problems on the whiteboard with marking pens. I also remember him driving me in Texas as we discussed ways to solve problems at Point Comfort Refinery.

He had a prodigious memory and a great sense of humour. I remember him meeting another colleague in the Pinjarra Refinery and he remembered my colleague's children and exactly what they had been talking about ten years earlier. Siv remarked that his head was filled with so many facts ( and it was true because he had a genuine interest in people)

He also remarked with very good humour that he could not afford to retire as he had invested his superannuation into Alcoa and "had lost his shirt" when the share price crashed. Siv was an inspirational positive man.

Siva’s passing away has been a sad loss to me, although it was not unexpected. 
He was more like a brother to me than one In law.  
Memories of the times we spent with him, his remarkable generosity should be the healing touch.

My heartfelt condolences to the family. Siva uncle and Ganga were some of the most gracious and friendly people I had the privilege of meeting. Siva uncle with his witty remarks and a treasure trove of anecdotes was perfectly complemented by Ganga with her warm and cheerful presence. Having conversations with them, especially about their experiences travelling around the world, with Siva uncle's spontaneous one liners, were highlights of the family gatherings that I attended and are moments that I will cherish always. They are deeply missed.

To Ganga and the family of Siv, please accept my deepest sympathy at this time of great  loss. I wish  you peace and comfort as you grieve. 

It  was a pleasure  to work with Siv during  his service as Technical Manager at the Jamalco Operations  in Jamaica. A man with great intelligence  and wit. He had a natural aptitude for using words and ideas in a quick and inventive way to the betterment  of the Technical Department.  His sense of humor made even a serious business  meeting  "less tense" without straying from the main objectives.  

Siv,  made  great  contributions in his lifetime  and will be greatly missed.  May he sleep in peace

My sincere condolences to Siva's family. Siva and Ganga were my friends from the day they came to Victoria. They both helped everyone without any hesitation. They both loved each other so much.  I have never seen them arguing at all. Siva always had a good sense of humor.  He always talked about his childhood and discussed about what happened when he was in 5th grade and so on. He can explain in such a way as if it happened yesterday. We will miss them so much.

This is Rajendra Kulkarni. I go by “Raj”.

Siv and me both joined Suriname Aluminum Company in August 1971. We worked together until mid 1973, when I moved on. In 1973 job assignment took me to Guyana for a year. In 1974 I moved to New Orleans (Gramercy) with Kaiser Aluminum. As a fellow engineer Siv was fun to be around especially having beer at the Paranam Staff Club.

As years went by, Siv and me kept in touch regularly on the telephone. Every Christmas time, we waited for his letter with the Xmas card. The letter was a description of his travels and notable events during the year.

We also met up with Siv and Ganga at Galveston get togethers with Mishra, Laximinarayan and Sundaram a couple of times when a party was arranged by Siv. We, my wife Yolanda and me, celebrated his 80th birthday at the Pearland Temple .

Before I forget, Siv was also a good dancer. With music at Suralco parties, Siv was ready to go to the dance floor.

In short, Siv was a Jolly good fellow! Several fond memories.

Remembering my Siva Mama...

My memories of Siva mama go back to my childhood. There would be a lot of excitement at home the few days before he was due to arrive in India from the US. He carried with him a larger-than-life personality, a generous heart, a hearty laugh with his endless stream of jokes that he weaved into any conversation!

From then and till the time he was hit by the unfortunate effects of dementia, I always saw him as someone who was happiest when he was doing good things for others and, from my life in India, I was always amazed at the sheer number of friends he had spread across the world. He was honest and correct - sometimes to a fault. I still remember he would correct things I said because I got a small detail a bit off - and while I would brush it aside I would marvel at how he remembered all these small details!  

I feel grateful I was able to spend time with him not too long ago, when he was still largely my uncle of old. I have been very lucky to have him as an uncle and my memories of him will forever remain that of his slightly cheeky smile, his renditions of old Hindi and English songs alike and my partner in crime in running through the boxes of salted cashews he would bring along!
