

Sgt. Inv. Thurmond Marshall, 61, of Victoria passed away April 7, 2014. He was born in Victoria June 18, 1952, to the late George Flowers and Mae Jewel Thomas Terrell. Thurman was a dedicated Sgt. Investigator for the Victoria Country Sheriff’s Department where he worked for 33 years. He graduated from Texas A&I University with a Bachelor’s Degree in sociology. He played football for Stroman High School, Texas A&I University and the Denver Broncos. He was also a youth basketball coach for the YMCA and coached Women’s and Co-ed softball in past years. The Thurmond L. Marshall scholarship for $10,000 was set up when he retired in 2012 for students pursuing studies in Criminal Justice.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Rivera Marshall of Victoria; daughters, Tajma Daywood-Garza of San Antonio, Kendra Marshall of San Antonio, Christy Palacios of Victoria; son, Thurmond Leon Marshall, Jr. of San Antonio; sisters, Dorothy Ross and husband, Maurice of Victoria, Barbara Oliver of San Antonio and Lois Atwood and husband, Andrew of Austin; grandchildren, Deandre Marshall, Jaylen Morgan, Jamison Daywood-Garza and his faithful dachshund companions, Austin, Paris and Dallas.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy Dale and John Marshall.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Friday, April 11, 2014, at the Northside Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Hobbs officiating. Interment will follow in Mission Valley Cemetery off Berger Road.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Mayer, Abel Arriazola, Gary Lytle, Tony Daniel, Charles Williamson, Roy Compean, Robert Ontiveros and Don Chacon.
Honorary pallbearers will be Felton White, Joey Tillmon, Arthur Green, Bruce Bankhead, Carl Prince and all surrounding law enforcement officers and Victoria County Sheriff’s Department employees.
