Vera Johnson Guynn

Alongside raising a wonderful family, Vera became a lifelong educator working with children and students at Stanley Elementary, Victoria High School, and Victoria College. She loved family, earned two Master’s Degrees, loved educational travel, and became a gifted quilter blessing every member of her family with a “Granny quilt”. As a church member all of her life, Vera was lately a member of Northside Baptist Church, having served our Lord in many capacities and having given her time and resources to Christian work. As a giving, loving, thoughtful and supportive person she is missed by many.

In addition to her parents Vera is preceded in death by her husband Charles Robert Johnson of Victoria, and husband Wayne D Guynn of Victoria and Hessel, Michigan, an infant daughter Martha Johnson, and brother Gordon Bishop of Kyle, Texas.

Vera is survived by her large loving family: daughter Mary Johnson Higgins (John) of Primm Springs, Tennessee, sons David Johnson (Carolyn) of Sommerville, Texas, Alan Johnson (Margie) of Victoria, Texas and Mike Johnson (Dana) of Fort Worth, Texas. Grandchildren Nancy Johnson Sagebiel (Richard) of Bastrop, Texas, Christy Johnson Webb (Keith) of Lyons, Texas, Julie Higgins Bedwell (Craig) of San Antonio, Texas, Bryan Higgins (Michelle) of Murphy, Texas, Janna Higgins Kinnard (Brian) of Bon Aqua, Tennessee, Amanda Johnson Graham (Nick) of Port Arthur, Texas, Cory Johnson (Stefani) of Austin, Texas, Ali Johnson of Austin, Texas and Whitney Johnson of Austin, Texas. Great grandchildren Daniel, Grace, Hannah, and Rayann Sagebiel, Cody Mueggenborg, McKinsey and Lucas Kinnard, Sevyn, Bryan II, Audrey, and Josey Higgins, Isaac, Joseph, Naomi, and Bethany Graham. Makayla, Molly, Maycee and Myles Johnson. Brothers Kenneth Bishop (Jaxine) of McKinney, Texas and Barrett Bishop of Dayton, Tennessee. Stepdaughter Gale Guynn Watkins (JD) of Greenwood, Arkansas and step granddaughters Elizabeth Williams (Josh) of Pittsburg, Pa. Janna Pettigrew (Wes) of Sulphur, Oklahoma and four step great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Rosewood Funeral Chapel in Victoria, Texas on Sunday, January 7th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. A celebration of Vera’s life will be held at Northside Baptist Church of Victoria, Texas at 10:00 am Monday, January 8th. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Bryan Higgins, Cory Johnson, Richard Sagebiel, Keith Webb, Craig Bedwell, Brian Kinnard, Nick Graham, and John Higgins

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Dr. Richard C Mabry and Bobby Cubriel

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to South Texas Children Home, or the Victoria College Foundation (student scholarships).
