Mom,
I love you so much and will miss you more than you will know. You always treated me so well and welcomed me into the family, not just as a daughter in law but as daughter. You were my mom and best friend, so easy to talk to and never passing any judgement. I will cherish all the times we spent together. You are a very special person, thank you for always being there for me. So may wonderful memories, thank you!

We had so many wonderful times together whether it was just a visit to Spring Valley Lake, short trip to Vegas, cruise to Alaska, or trips to Hawaii. As a matter of fact every moment we spent together was special as you always filled my heart with joy. When I think of you beautiful memories flood in. You were always so kind never asking for anything in return. Our love will transcend all dimensions, space and time will never break our bond. You are such an extraordinary person, how lucky are we to have had you in our life. You will be missed but never forgotten! 
Rest in Peace Mom and be proud of the wonderful family you raised.

Looking Back on Mom's Life - Part III

Eventually in late 1987, with Mark more or less in college, Mom convinced or really forced dad into retirement.  They would move to Spring Valley Lake, California to live on the golf course.  It was here that mom reconnected with her mom, Thema.  Mom looked after and assisted in caring for both her mom Thema and her twin sister, Aunt Therma, through their final days in Spring Valley Lake.  Later, in the early 1990’s, Mom’s younger brother Donald would move into Spring Valley Lake.  In late 2009, Michael and Tahee purchased their home in Spring Valley Lake too.  With all family members electing to live in homes on the golf course.  Over the years mom made endless friendships and provided loving care for so many people in Spring Valley Lake.  In the 1990’s and early 2000’s the community was known for its marvelous friendships and wild parties, the days when parties were thrown weekly for no apparent reason at all. 

It was here, in her home that on August 28, 2025, two days shy of her 96th birthday, Mom journeyed into her final and True Home.  Each of her surviving children, Michael, Trish, Brian and Mark along with other family members and her closest friends were present on and off that day, to watch over her and provide for her as she drifted off to her final destination.

My final and overarching observations – Carol Elena Christie was always a positive, empowering, and supportive mother and friend.  Always happy and cheerful, never complaining about anything, even though life threw some terribly difficult challenges at her in her final year, months, weeks, and days. Looking Back on Mon's Life - Part 2

The stick-shift car that dad drove, the only family car at the time, was not going to work for this first-time driver.  Eventually with the ease of a lever controlled automatic transmission in her more maneuverable Chevy Corvair, she and the kids were on their way.
Dad received some sound advice from one of his co-workers in early 1965, you really should buy a new house in the up-and-coming place of Porter Ranch in Northridge, California.  Mom dismissed the idea as crazy and utterly unaffordable.  When it came to family decision making Dad would only exert his influence and pressure in the most significant family decisions, so in March 1965 the family moved to Porter Ranch.  It was a very large home and Dad further pushed the matter further by installing a big swimming pool in the back yard.  It was a loud, busy, and mostly happy home for the kids and our neighborhood friends.  This is the home that all mom’s children would eventually leave from, as one by one, each kid decided to break out and head out, on their own.
Three years later, in 1968, another significant decision was made by dad, he joined the Porter Valley Country Club just up the street from our home.  That Country Club membership, which was eventually transferred to Spring Valley Lake Country Club, would remain active for mom and dad for 57 years, when mom decided to let it go in 2025.  
In 1969, with Cathy already out of the house, back in and out yet again, out popped moms final present to the word, Mark Steven Christie, #5.  Oh boy, Richard, I guess you are not going to be retiring anytime soon now.  In the later part of the 1970’s, with all the kids out of the house except for the baby of the family, Mom ventured back into the workforce helping her lifelong friend, Rose Keller, establish a very fun and successful clothing store, where they sold tons of the hottest commodity at that time, high fashion jeans, such as Jordache. Looking Back at Mom’s Life - Part 1

Mom was born and raised in Inglewood, California.  She soon found herself as the oldest child in a single head-of-family household led by her working mother.  Accordingly, she was heavily involved in raising and caring for her younger brother, Donald, including getting him off to school and back home from school.  Carol learned the techniques, values, and responsibilities of caring for others at a very young age, something she would excel at for the rest of her life.
While working as a dental hygienist, mom met and married Richard Haldane Christie of Hollywood, California in January 1950.  They welcomed the birth of their first child, Catherine (Cathy) Lee Christie in October of that year.  During the next several years dad worked day and night, while finishing his college degree under the GI Bill in his spare time.  After receiving his Teaching Credential, dad and mom were off and running, and started to build a comfortable life for their family. 
They bought their first home in Granada Hills, California in 1953.  Just in time for the arrival of Michael, #2, in 1954.  Mom’s mother, Thema Ball Ebeling, was a twin with her sister Therma Ball Gardner, and wouldn’t you know it, in 1958 out popped a set of twins for Mom, first Trish, #3, quickly followed by Brian, #4.  This would be central to influencing Mom’s future in so many ways because Mom joined the local Twin Club, providing a support group for mothers presented with the great blessing and challenges of having infant twins.  It would be there that she would meet her life-long friend and compatriot Marion Kuzmin, who had also been blessed with a twin boy and girl combination at nearly the same time.  When the early 1960’s rolled around, fulfilled beyond her wildest dreams with four kids to raise, but each getting older and needier; mom set out to conquer her next challenge, learning to drive a car. My Final Words and Observations

Mom spent her life providing for and giving to others.  First as a mother to her kids and the running of an extremely hectic household.  Then later to her extended family and friends here in Spring Valley Lake, home for her last 38 years.  There were only a few years that Mom had time for herself and her own self-interests, that was when all the kids, other than Mark, were out of the house.  She used that time to work once again, this time for a close family friend.  It was only in the last year that Mom was not up to caring for and looking after many others.  The aches and pains associated with her body giving out did not allow her to focus on much more than getting herself through each day.  Mom continued to care for herself right up to the end but the circle of people she looked out after had shrunk to just a few.  It was then that Mom stated to tell me, Michael I am ready – I am tired, I am worn out, I’m ready - I do not wany any heroic measures keeping me around beyond my natural time left.  During this winding down process Mom never complained at all.  She was from the Tough Generation of Folks who rarely, if ever, would complain about their own circumstances, they just go about doing what needs to be done.  Much different from myself and how I look and feel about life.  So, it was this role model that I will always remember and cherish, to have had as my Mother for all those years.  The role model that announced she was ready to go only after realizing she had arrived at a place that she could no longer care for anyone else other than herself.

The two defining traits:
	A life spent looking after and taking care of others
	A life led without complaint
