With profound sorrow and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Evangelina "Eva" Serna, beloved mother, wife, and pillar of the community, who left us peacefully on October 16, 2024, at the age of 85. Born to Emerita and Luis Salazar on a spring day in 1939 in Jalpa, Zacatecas, Mexico, Eva's life journey was one of profound strength, unyielding faith, and endless compassion.

Eva grew up on “Delicias” Street, in the quaint village of Jalpa, where the gentle sounds of the nearby river complemented the delicious smell of fresh tortillas and simmering beans. Her father, Luis, who worked in the United States under the Bracero program, taught her to appreciate the honor in hard work and the beauty of life's simple joys. This philosophy shaped Eva's life, guiding her from Mexico to the United States, where she tackled life’s challenges with unwavering optimism, often exclaiming that life "ES FUN." She passed this ethos of resilience and hard work onto her children during long days spent preparing masa and tamales.

Eva's unwavering faith led her to contemplate a life of religious devotion, yet love guided her path to marriage with Javier Serna, where they embarked on various entrepreneurial endeavors, ultimately founding the beloved Casa Delicias Bakery. The bakery in Victorville became a sanctuary for the local Mexican community, a place where no one was turned away, embodying Eva’s belief that "where there is love, there is God." Her bakery was not just a business but a lifeline, offering jobs and help to those in dire need, securing her legacy as a beacon of hope and generosity.

Survived by her husband Javier, sisters Cecilia and Emerita, her children Adrienne, Veronica, Magdalia, Danny, and Evangeline, and her adored grandchildren Evangeline, Eleanor, Isabella, and Juliette, Eva's love and lessons resonate deeply within a vast family circle. Her kitchen was her sanctuary, a place where she passed on the art of Mexican cuisine and the joy of cooking to anyone with a willing heart, leaving behind a legacy of culinary prowess that binds her family and friends in loving memory.

Eva’s later years were shadowed by dementia, a challenge she met with the grace and courage that defined her life. In these moments, her family drew closer, turning each challenge into a testament of their love for her. Her family, witnessing her strength in facing this ailment was both heartbreaking and profoundly inspiring.

As we bid farewell to Eva, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and profoundly impactful. She now dances and cooks in heaven, ensuring everyone is as well-fed and loved as they were in her presence on earth. Her spirit, characterized by joy, resilience, and an unbreakable faith in both God and humanity, will forever inspire those who knew her.

Nacida de Emerita y Luis Salazar un día primaveral de 1939 en Jalpa, Zacatecas, México, la trayectoria de vida de Eva fue marcada por una profunda fortaleza, fe inquebrantable y compasión interminable.

Eva creció en la calle “Delicias” en el pintoresco pueblo de Jalpa, donde los suaves sonidos del río cercano complementaban el delicioso aroma de tortillas frescas y frijoles hirviendo. Su padre, Luis, quien trabajó en Estados Unidos bajo el programa Bracero, le enseñó a valorar el honor en el trabajo arduo y la belleza de las pequeñas alegrías de la vida. Esta filosofía moldeó la vida de Eva, guiándola desde México hacia Estados Unidos, donde enfrentó los desafíos de la vida con un optimismo inquebrantable, proclamando a menudo que la vida era “DIVERTIDA”. A committal service will occur Friday, October 25, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Desert View Memorial Park, 11478 Amargosa Rd, Victorville, CA 92392.

A reception to follow committal services, will occur at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9974 I Ave, Hesperia, California 92345.
