

Floyd William Jones Jr., AKA Skip, was born November 18, 1943, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of Floyd William Jones, Sr., and Vera Lou (Philliber) Jones. He left this earth at 10:48a.m. on Sunday, October 31, 2021, to be with God and to direct the Heavenly Choir. Skip was 77 years of age.
Skip graduated in 1962 from Broken Arrow High School. After high school he attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, where in 1967 he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. His major was in Music Education with a minor in piano. Over the next several years he attended Universities and Colleges continuing his graduate study to include University of California in Riverside, California, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary Kansas City, Missouri, Chapman College, Victorville, California, and Coleman College, La Mesa, California.
In 1967 he moved from Oklahoma to Barstow, California, where he began teaching history and English at Hinkley Elementary School. In 1968 he began teaching vocal music at Barstow High School until 1971. Over the course of several years and still in California he also taught at Hesperia Junior High School as a music and English teacher, Hesperia Christian School teaching choir and accounting, Apple Valley Christian School teaching modern history, ancient history and geography, and New Life Christian School teaching history and English.
In 1971 he was ordained to serve as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Barstow, California. He began working part-time doing the music and youth program until 1974. He also worked at First Southern Baptist Church Apple Valley, California, First Southern Baptist Church on Tracy Street, Victorville, California, churches in the San Diego/La Mesa/Escondido areas, Crosspointe Church, Fontana, California, and Bible Baptist Church, Victorville, California.
He officially retired from Bible Baptist Church, Victorville, California, August 1, 2014.
He loved studying the Word of Jesus, worshiping to anyone and everyone who would listen, directing music, teaching guitar, voice lessons, working with the adult and youth choirs, singing, writing music (gospel & country), playing guitar and piano, teaching Sunday school, teaching school, working with shut-in ministry, telling jokes, making people smile, painting (residential and commercial) and fishing.
Skip is survived by:
Daughter, Vivian and husband Clifton Hickman, DeRidder, Louisiana, sons: Adam Jones of Stanton, California, Gabriel and wife Shaynee Jones, Richmond, Texas
Grandchildren, Emili Hickman, Evan, Nathan, Elijah and Scarlett Jones
Sister, Gracie and husband Preston Hale, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, sister-in-law, Joyce (Emerson) Jones, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma
Stepchildren, grandchildren and great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by:
Parents, Floyd and Vera Lou Jones, brother, David Jones, and wives: Delores Jones and Julia Jones
My family and I would like to take this opportunity to give a heartfelt thank you to his loyal caretaker Rowell Pasion. Rowell took care of our dad for the three (3) years he was in a care facility. Rowell’s love for him and dedication was like no other!! Also, to all the staff at Good Heart Hospice, Amegil Home for the Elderly and Cherry & Pine Garden Homecare, Inc. Thank you does not seem enough!
We would also like to thank everyone who took the time to visit with our dad and for all of the prayers and support. It is greatly appreciated, more than you know!!
