Gerald Wayne Smith, known to many as “Jerry,” passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, in Victorville, California, at the age of 74. Born on May 31, 1950, in Akron, Ohio, Jerry was raised in Torrance, California, where he developed the work ethic, values, and spirit that would shape his life.
In 1969, Jerry married the love of his life, Susan, and together they built a beautiful life, raising four daughters. In 1983, the family relocated to the High Desert, where Jerry established his own contracting business. He later found his true calling as a firefighter, dedicating himself to public service and his community.
Jerry proudly served on the Baldy Mesa Water Board, Special Districts, and LAFCO. He was passionate about hot rods, motorcycles, and collecting treasures of all kinds.
He is survived by his daughters Annie and her husband Daniel Wright, Lacy Smith and Fred Arzate, and Lisa and her husband Gilbert Vasquez. He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Jerry, Christopher, Bryen, Anthony, Charles, Austin, Tristyn, Isabella, Gracie, Nevaeh, and Gunner, and great-grandchildren Vincent, Genivee, Brixton, and Cameron. He is also survived by his brother Larry Smith; sister Patricia and her husband Lee Swearingen, and Sherry Anderson.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Rose and Nat Arcudi, and father Lawrence Smith. His wife Susan Smith, daughter Natalie Rommel, and brother Bob Smith.
Services will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Desert View Memorial Park, located at 11478 Amargosa Rd, Victorville, CA 92392. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by burial at 1:00 PM. A reception will follow to celebrate Jerry’s life and legacy.
He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
