

Robert Warren Downs Sr. passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026. A native of Rantoul Township, Illinois, Mr. Downs was born on October 14, 1951, at Chanute Air Force Base to George and Virginia (Frist) Downs.
On May 7, 1971, he wed the love of his life, Mary Kathleen Canada. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Downs was drafted into the United States Army, where he served with distinction until 1979. Following his military tenure, he relocated his family to Victorville, California. While beginning his career with the County of San Bernardino, he pursued higher education at California State University, San Bernardino, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree. Mr. Downs dedicated many years to the County as a Computer Programmer until his retirement in 2011.
Known as a man of quiet strength and few words, Robert was a lifelong learner with a particular passion for technology, literature, and genealogical research. Through his work with AU Mojave Prospectors, he enjoyed teaching children the art of gold panning. He was a steadfast friend, known for his willingness to assist those in need without hesitation.
Mr. Downs was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, George and Steve; his grandchildren, Jeff and Makenna; and his beloved wife, Mary Kathleen. He is survived by his brother, Eric Downs; his children, Dianna Hope Lish, Robert Warren Downs Jr. (Alissa), and Richard Alan Downs; as well as nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
