

With deep love and heartfelt remembrance, we announce the passing of Roland Thomas McTier Sr., affectionately known as “Tommy” and “Big Mac” who transitioned from this life on March 14, 2025, in Victorville, California, at the age of 76. Born on October 18, 1948, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Marjorie and Bobby Parks Sr., Tommy was a proud graduate of William M. Raines Senior High School, Class of 1966, where he was the Head Drum Major in the school’s renowned marching band. He went on to attend Edward Waters College, where he met the love of his life, Doris Ann Drayton. The two married on August 27, 1977, in Kingsland, Ga and shared a beautiful life together until her passing in 2014.
Roland was drafted into the United States Air Force in August 1969, proudly serving his country for over 23 years. During his distinguished military career, he earned numerous accolades, medals, and ribbons. He served in the Vietnam War and was stationed overseas in Korea and Spain. He retired as a Master Sergeant on October 31, 1992, having served with honor and dedication.Following his military retirement, Roland continued his service to the nation as a civilian contractor at Edwards Air Force Base and Fort Irwin Army Base for another 22 years. A skilled airplane mechanic, he officially retired from civilian service in 2014.Roland was a man of many talents and passions. He loved fixing cars, hosting BBQs, spending time fishing, and relaxing to the sounds of jazz music. He was a proud Mason with the High Desert Masonic Lodge and an active member of the U.S.M.C.S. Retirees Social Club. Known for his charm, humor, and kindness, he left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris Ann McTier, and his brother Doyle Lewis.
Roland is survived by his children, Roland Thomas McTier Jr. (Debra Ann McTier) and Heather Michelle McTier (Jason Wrice); and his cherished grandchildren, Jeremiah Thomas Parker, London Dior McTier, Brendon Barrow, and Noa Wrice.He also leaves behind his loving siblings: Phyllis Jackson (Bruce Jackson), Bobby Parks Jr. (Deborah Parks), Tracey Parks, and Matthew Parks Sr. (Natasha Parks); and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family who adored him, including Cynthia Drayton, Tammy Drayton, Renda Johnson, JaMile Jackson (Annie Trickey), Britni Parks, Khyla Parks, Brea Parks, Malcolm Jackson, Kennedy Parks, Brett Parks, Jaediah Parks, Joshua Myrick, Jhournee Chandler, Ryann Jackson, and Kennedi Bruning, along with a large and loving community of adopted nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.Roland’s life was defined by service, love, and generosity. His spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched, and his memory will forever be cherished.
