Thomas Francis Trickey

Tom was born on May 30, 1943, in Marion, Ohio, the only child of Mary and Thurland Trickey. He grew up alongside his half-siblings, brother Dale Trickey and sister Jean Crider, from Thurland’s previous marriage.

At a young age, Tom’s family relocated to California, where he was raised and educated in National City, San Diego. He graduated high school in 1961 and, driven by a strong sense of duty, enlisted in the United States Army immediately after graduation.

Tom proudly served his country for 20 years, from June 27, 1961, to December 31, 1981, earning numerous commendations for his service, including the Bronze Star Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, four Good Conduct Medals, and five Overseas Bars. He retired from the Army with honors.

Following his military career, Tom continued to serve in a different way, working in Information Technology and as a Programmer in Computer Science. After retiring from his civilian career, he settled in Hesperia, California, a place he dearly loved and called home for many years.

Tom had a passion for health and wellness. About seven years ago, he became an enthusiastic and active member of the Heritage Team Retro-Fit community, participating in programs such as HitFit, Fitness 101, and Smart Fit. Ever the communicator and supporter, he took the initiative to create and coordinate a community newsletter and distribution list to keep over 50 gym members informed and connected.

Tom is survived by his sister, Jean Crider; his sister-in-law, Laura Jane Trickey (wife of the late Dale Trickey); and many nieces and nephews who knew him as a devoted and loving uncle.

Tom will be remembered for his service, his intelligence, his commitment to fitness and community, and the kindness and generosity he showed to all who knew him.

The Viewing will be held at Desert View Funeral Home, 11478 Amargosa Rd, Victorville, CA 92392, on Tuesday, July 8th, from 6pm - 8pm.

Services will be held at Desert View Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 9th at 11am.

The Military Honors Burial will be held at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Dr, San Diego, CA 92122, on Monday, July 14, at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Tom’s memory to a veterans’ organization or local community fitness initiative of your choice.
