Samuel served in the United States Army during the Korean War, during 1946 -1947 and 1949- 1952. Worked sixteen years Calcasieu Paper Company and owned his own business, Sam’s Service Station.
He was preceded in death by his wife Fay Johnson Flurry and Parents, Malcolm and Lucille Flurry, brothers; James Louis Flurry, Floyd Flurry, Oliver Flurry, and one sister Beatrice Wardon, one infant great-great grandson, Titus Dickens and one grandson Anthony Clifton and one non-biological son Dale Oaks.
Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory, include; three daughters; Betty Moore of Oakdale, LA, Nona Johnson and Husband Larry of Edgerly, LA, and Jan Flurry Clifton and Marshall Clifton of Hineston, LA. Ten grandchildren: Jerry Dickens, Sammy Dickens, Johnny Johnson and wife Samantha, Karrie Johnson, Josh Sittingdown, Amber Monk, Kurt Clifton and Candy Kingan-Brady, Pam Clifton, Debbie Wampler and husband Mike; sixteen great grandchildren, and eleven great-great grandchildren. Also left to mourn his loss, two brothers; Felix Flurry of Everett, MA; RC Flurry and wife Beryl of Homewood, AL; one Sister Sandra Brewer and husband David of Lucedale, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Services for Samuel L. Flurry will be held Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Antioch Baptist Church in Edgerly, LA at 3 P.M. with Visitation from 2 P.M. to 3 P.M.; Brother Russel Beard will officiate. Graveside services will be held Sunday, November 5, 2017 at 5 p.m at Drakes Fork Cemetery, Cravens, LA; Brother Hardy Estes and Brother Jason Townley will officiate.
