Professional sports played a big part in Art’s life and was even the reason he met the love of his life, Kay. Art’s sport career included playing for the Canadian Junior Hockey League at the age of 15 and the Canadian National Baseball Team when he was 17. He played for, and eventually coached, the Fort Wayne Komets Hockey Team in Indiana from 1958 to 1966. Art and his wife, Kay, met while he was playing baseball in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. Kay was invited to one of the baseball tournaments by her sister and husband where she was introduced to Art. When Art broke his leg during the season, he had many opportunities to try to win Kay over. She finally agreed to a first date and the rest is the history of their beautiful life of over 70 years together. After his hockey career, Art and his family moved to Virginia Beach where he accepted a position at Evans Products. Although Art was finished with professional sports, he enjoyed staying active by playing golf.
Art’s memory will be cherished by his wife Kay, daughter Debra Lysse (Jerry), son Bob Stone (Julie), four grandchildren William Lysse, Michael Lysee, Jenna Garcia, Rachel Stone, and four great grandchildren, Ellie Lysse, Nora Lysse, Bennett Lysse, and Sawyer Lysse. Thank you Pop Pop for helping to create this amazing family and legacy!
