

Born in Boston, Massachusetts and native of Virginia, Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Wallace Hughes and Madlyne Bowman Hughes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended R.P.I. which is now known as V.C.U. He was president of AAA Pool Services for twenty-three years and was a leader and innovator for the pool industry for more than forty years. He was a founding member of The Tidewater Chapter of National Spa and Pool Institute and proud member of Community Association Institute, American Red Cross, Professional Pool Operators of America, Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce; Tidewater Builders Association, Virginia Lifeguard Association and Tidewater Lifeguard Association.
Survivors include his loving wife of thirty-eight years, Jean Bossinger Hughes, two sons, Erik Hughes and wife, Laurie; Kevin Hughes and girlfriend, Jessica; a granddaughter, Zoey Hughes; a brother, Thomas Hughes and wife, Bea; a nephew, Andy Hughes; extended family and beloved friend, KC.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 22, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel.
A celebration of Mr. Hughes’ life will be celebrated on Friday, March 23, 2012, 1:00 p.m. at Community United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Colonial Grove Memorial Park.
