February 1939 – May 2025
Virginia Beach, Virginia
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carlton Woodington, 86, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, on May 30, 2025. Carlton, also known as Corky and Woody, was born to William “Bill” and Lillian Woodington of Norfolk. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed.
A true family man, Carlton is survived by his beloved brother, Ronald Woodington and Ronald’s wife, Doris; his nieces, Joyce Farmer (Greg) and Lou Anne Fowler (Jeff); as well as several cousins, extended family, and friends. He was particularly close to his brother and they shared a special bond, spending time together and keeping a running tally of their wins and losses in their favorite games. After a stroke in 2007, he continued to maintain his sense of joy and connection, enjoying a weekly game of Rummikub with his friend, Kenny.
A proud veteran, he served two tours of duty in the U.S. Army, joking he was the oldest man in the infantry. He also worked as a truck driver, police officer, and salesman before retiring from the Naval Base Payroll Department.
Carlton, quick to share his opinions, had an infectious smile and a laugh that brightened every room. He was known for his generosity, often spoiling his family and friends with love, homemade poundcake, fudge, and brownies. He enjoyed collecting model cars, pens, and coins, always with a curious eye for detail and quality.
His unwavering faith was paramount to him, his Bible was always close by, and he prayed daily for his country, family and friends. Active in his church until his stroke, Carlton’s devotion to the Lord remained central to his life. His faith gave him strength, and his humor touched many. He will be remembered for the warmth of his spirit and his willingness to share what he had.
Though he is now in heaven, Carlton’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. The family is grateful to the Trinity Hospice caregivers and volunteers who lovingly assisted him.
Graveside service will be held at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia, on Monday, June 30, 2025 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
