Born June 6, 1960, in Richmond, Virginia, he was the son of Emma Dopfer Fleming and the late William Worth Fleming Jr. David shared his childhood with his older brother Billy and his loving parents. The family moved to Virginia Beach when David was a child, which remained his home throughout his life. David attended Kempsville High School, Chowan University and then pursued a career in cable management and building engineering on many properties in Chesapeake. He was employed with Transwestern in Chesapeake for many years. His greatest gift was how he could become a friend to everyone, and his loyalty was forever.
David’s greatest love was his family, home, and wildlife. David’s passion for family, friends and animals will always be our family’s on-going memory of his love and care.
Survivors include his loving mother Emma Fleming, beloved spouse Carol of 35 years, daughter Kristy Lewis and Brad Latigue, and beloved granddaughter Aria, whom he cherished with all his heart. Patti Stiffler, Carol’s sister who has always been there for us, Mike and Beth Keenehan, friends but more of a brother and sister all his life, nephew Will Fleming, aunt Brenda Fleming of Williamsburg, and cousins Richard and Patti Fleming of Richmond. He was preceded in death by his beloved father William W. Fleming Jr. and brother William (Billy) W. Fleming III.
David had so many more friends that he felt were his family, with total dedication forever. We know that David will be with them and guide them forever.
One of his greatest loves was Aria, his granddaughter that he cherished with all of his heart, always wanting her hugs that he affectionately called “his huggins”. And his beloved dog, Rocky, whom he loved so dearly.
David loved all wildlife and spent many years in the mountains of Charlottesville enjoying the country and all the animals and wildlife. And many more days in the fields of Va. Beach and the waterways and marshes to peacefully be with nature.
He was very involved in animal rescue. David seemed to know every wildlife animal and how they made the world a better place. Total respect with a very deep understanding. He would tell us, “You will know when the storms are coming, watch the birds.” And he was always right. He wanted to protect every goose in Chesapeake and the geese around his building properties always knew he was there and would protect them.
David will always be in our hearts. We will remember his smile, his contagious laugh, his stories, and his unconditional love. Both will be forever in our memories.
A memorial service for David will be held at 12:00 noon, on May 15, 2025, at Church of the Ascension to honor his life. The service will be live-streamed. Please go to www. ascensionvb.org to sign in 5 minutes prior to the service beginning.
