

Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 66 years, Marjorie B. Stanton and two loving children, John F. Stanton and Kathleen D. Stanton.
Earl was a member of Kempsville Baptist Church where three of his greatest blessings were serving as Sunday School Teacher of the Adult Achievers Class (50+) years, Deacon and Choir Member for (50+) years.
Earl excelled as a student athlete at Maury High School, class of 1951 and was presented “The Good Citizenship Award” by The Sons of the American Revolution upon graduation.
After attending the winter semester at The Norfolk Division of William & Mary/ VPI, Earl enrolled at Virginia Tech in the fall of 1951 as a member of the Virginia Tech Corp of Cadets, rising to the rank of Major on the Regimental Staff during his senior year.
His love for Tech compelled him to become actively involved in college life. He served on the Cadet Senate, Cadet Honor Court, National Society of Scabbard and Blade, and was honored as a Distinguished Military Student. He was President of The Baptist Student Union, President of the Building Construction Fraternity of Sigma Lambda Chi, Secretary of The Honorary Society of Omicron Delta Kappa, and was recognized by American Universities and Colleges of “Who’s Who Among College Students”. Between his junior and senior year Earl received The Certificate of Merit at the Reserve Officers Training Corps, Ft. Gordon, Georgia.
Upon graduation he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Building Construction. After graduating in 1955, Earl received his Commission as 2nd Lt. in the United States Army and served as Commanding Officer of the 507th Signal Company in Verdun France until 1958, and in the Reserves until Honorably Discharged 1963. Earl joined the firm of C.E. Thurston & Sons in 1961 where he served for 37 years rising to the office of Senior Vice President at the time of his retirement in 1998.
During his time at Thurston he became President of The Southeastern Insulation Contractors Association in 1980 and served on the National Insulation Contractors Board of Directors in 1981.
Earl served his community for ten years as a member of Historic Kempsville Citizens Advisory Committee to the City of Virginia Beach. He also was a coach of the 1975 Kempsville Pony League, Virginia State Champions.
A visitation for Earl will be held Monday, July 21, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Kempsville Baptist Church, 5204 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. A Celebration of Life will occur Monday, July 21, 2025 at 11:00 AM, Kempsville Baptist Church, 5204 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. An interment will occur Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd, Suffolk, Virginia 23434.
