Mr. Courtney was a diesel mechanic for Carter Machinery for thirty years. He was a member of Kempsville Church of Christ and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Courtney of fifty-seven years and a granddaughter, Sonya Ansbach.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Courtney-Grey and her husband, Gary of Virginia Beach; granddaughters, Courtney Kennedy of Newport News, VA; Jennifer Courtney of Norfolk, VA; and Ashley and Bryan Grey of Chesapeake, VA; and nine great grandchildren and a sister, Fannie Eller of Lakeland, FL and a brother-in-law, Shirley Worrell of Suffolk, VA.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, 12:00 Noon at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.
