John "Johnny" Thomas Byers, Sr.

John “Johnny” Thomas Byers, Sr., 74, passed away in Virginia Beach Wednesday morning on March 20, 2019. Johnny was born in Norfolk to the late Frederick and Louise Byers. Johnny was also predeceased by his daughter, Shelley Byers. As a native of Norfolk, Johnny spent his life here in the Hampton Roads area. He was a graduate of Maury HS in Norfolk. Johnny was also a member of Central Baptist Church in Norfolk. He loved watching Nascar racing, in particular Ricky Rudd. He was a devoted Washington Redskins fan as well. He worked both at Davenports in Norfolk and Thalia Shell in Virginia Beach. He is survived by his loving wife, Charlene Byers; son, John Thomas Byers, Jr. “J.T.” and his wife, Terry; daughter, Rachael Elizabeth Small and her husband, Mark; sister, Jo Anne Hodapp; grandchildren, Tessa Lane Byers, Blake Perry Small and Summer Elizabeth Small. A Celebration of Life will start at 11am, Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Smith and Williams Funeral Home Kempsville. There will be a reception to follow the service to fellowship with the family and share memories of Johnny.
