Joe served in the United States Navy and the United States Air Force retiring with 29 years of service as a Senior Master Sergeant. Joe later went on to work and retire from the City of Norfolk and Smith & Williams Funeral Home. He was quite active with the Masons having been past Master of the Elizabeth Lodge AM & FM #34, Past High Priest of Norfolk United Royal Arch Chapter # 1, 32 Degree KCCH Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Past Patron Order of the Eastern Star Westminster Chapter # 99, and a current member of Kempsville Masonic Lodge AM & FM # 196.
Joe was laid to rest with Betty in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, Virginia.
