Katherine Anna Ogle Dean of Virginia Beach, VA, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Oct. 19, 2017. Katherine was born on Oct. 22, 1937 in Braddock, ND. Her formative years consisted of attending several schools as she traveled from state to state with her family from the greater North West to the Gulf of Mexico. Although her father’s employment kept the family on the move, Pawnee, OK was their anchored residence. Katherine was a 1955 graduate of Pawnee High School and later graduated from Tidewater Community College with an AS in Education and a BS in Business Administration from Old Dominion University. Her employments include church secretary in Bethany, OK and Beeville, TX; and telephone operator in Oklahoma City, OK and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. In Masonic related organizations, she served twice as Worthy Matron, Order of the Eastern Star, twice as Queen for the Daughters of the Nile, and twice as Royal Matron, Order of the Amaranth. For several years she enjoyed dancing with local square and round dance clubs. Katherine was a talented seamstress who for many years designed and produced women’s tailored formal and casual wearing apparel. Katherine was a member of the Miles Memorial United Methodist Church, Norfolk, VA. She was preceded in death by her only child, Alvin E. Dean, Jr. in December 2012, and her parents, father Ernest Ogle and mother Sylvia Wayrynen, and sister Marjorie Sylvia Ogle and brother, Earl Douglas Ogle and her step-sister Delora Hucklebery of Corona, CA and step-brother Donald Wharton of Tacoma, WA. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 63 years, Alvin E. Dean, Sr., and her former daughter-in-law, Joan Dean of Virginia Beach, and two precious granddaughters Kristen Dean and Nancy Dean of Virginia Beach; and sister Delores Chrisco of Mulvane, KS, half-brother Wayne Wharton of Terlton, OK, and other loving family members and numerous friends. A final viewing will be held on Monday, October 23, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, 4889 Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach.
