The eldest child of CDR USN (Ret) Vernon J. Sistrunk and Agnes “Jonnie” H. Sistrunk, Linda entered this world in Providence, RI, in 1946. Frequent moves with her Navy family ceased in July of 1963, when the Sistrunks dropped permanent anchor in Virginia Beach. Linda graduated from Princess Anne High School in 1965 and enjoyed high esteem as an accomplished seamstress - even making her own wedding dress for her 1967 marriage to Roanoke native and ODU graduate, George “Bill” W. Reed III. During their twenty-year marriage, Bill and Linda had two beloved daughters, Jacqueline and Shannon. Sadly, infant Shannon passed away in 1972.
Before the long and debilitating illness which ultimately stole her from us, Linda brought energy, passion, wit, resourcefulness, and determination to every aspect of her life. She was an avid gardener, a wonderful cook, and incredibly artistic. She delighted in creating gifts for family and friends. She always shared generously whatever she could with those in need or less fortunate. Linda adored nature, especailly birds, adopting various parrots in need of homes during the last 35 years.
She is survived by her mother, Jonnie; sister, Tracy; brother, Steve; daughter, Jackie; granddaughters, Johanna “Jonni” and Holly “Scout”; nieces Holly and Brogan; and partner John. A private family ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 1. You may offer condolences at www.smithandwilliamskempsville.com
