She was born on February 20, 1933, in Mauban Quezon, Philippines to Dr. Francisco & Maria Alquiros. She received her medical degree in 1958 from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines. Her career brought her to the US, where she completed her Internal Medicine training in New York. It was there that she would be introduced to her future husband and start a family. The family would move to Virginia Beach in 1978, starting her private practice in Norfolk, VA. She then went on to work in the Emergency Department in Greenville Memorial Hospital in Emporia, VA as well as the local Naval Clinics.
In her retirement years she enjoyed traveling, time with family and friends, and especially weekly Pokeno games. Dr. Agustin was a member of the Philippine Medical Association of Virginia, Quezonian of Hampton Roads, and the San Lorenzo de Manila Choir.
Dr. Agustin was active with Church of the Ascension and charitable interests throughout the Hampton Roads community and the Philippines.
Dr. Agustin is survived by her husband of 53 years, Oscar Canlas Agustin from Manila, Philippines; her son, Noel and daughter-inlaw Jelwyn (Recuenco) Agustin; her son Oliver Agustin and partner Justin Arthur; her son Emil and daughter-in-law Melanie (Bariso) Agustin and granddaughter Mariana Agustin; and a large, loving and supportive extended family in Hampton Roads, across the U.S., and the Philippines. She is predeceased by her parents, Dr. Francisco and Maria (Pastrana) Alquiros; and siblings Lutgardo Alquiros, Monina Alquiros, Willie Alquiros, Roberto Alquiros and Teresita Alquiros.
The family invites all to a visitation on Thursday, December 21st from 4-7 P.M. at Smith and Williams Funeral Home/Kempsville, 4889 Princess Anne Rd. in Virginia Beach. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at the Church of the Ascension, 4853 Princess Anne Rd. in Virginia Beach on Friday, December 22nd at
11:00 A.M. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
