It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Reynaldo Macapugay Sison, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Affectionately known as "Papa Rey," he peacefully departed this world on April 7, 2026, at the age of 73, surrounded by the love of his family.
Reynaldo was born on March 15, 1953, in Manila, Philippines, to the late Fortunato and Ciriaca Sison. Growing up in a large and close-knit family, he was the cherished brother to Herminigildo, Gloria, Rolando, Fortunato Jr., and Valeriano Sison, while being preceded in death by siblings Carolina, Avelino, Rodrigo, Adolfo, Thelma, Conchita, and Yolanda. Reynaldo’s life was a testament to the strength of family bonds, a value he carried with him throughout his life.
In 1973, Reynaldo married the love of his life, Teresita, embarking on a journey of love and laughter that spanned 53 years. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters, Stephanie and Maria Victoria, instilling in them the values of kindness, humor, and resilience. His legacy continues through his five grandchildren, Nathalie Danielle, Samuel Nico, Isaac Jefferson, Elijah Haven, and the late Rebeckah Eleijah, who brought immense joy to his life.
A dedicated and hardworking man, Reynaldo worked as a machine operator in a Printing Press from the age of 19 until his retirement. His career took him to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he worked diligently for 18 years, providing for his family and creating a better future for them.
Beyond his professional achievements, Reynaldo was a pillar of his community. He was an active member of the Doulos for Christ Church in Norfolk for nearly eight years, where he found joy and fellowship in his cell group, team UNick. His faith was an integral part of his life, guiding his actions and interactions with others.
Reynaldo had a zest for life that was unmistakable. Known for his humor, tight hugs, and warm smiles, he had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel loved and welcomed. His famous adobo dish was a testament to his love for cooking, often shared with friends and family, accompanied by laughter and stories from his life. Whether he was watching cooking videos on YouTube or sharing a joke to lighten the mood, his generosity and kindness touched countless lives.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff of Davita Dialysis Center on Holland Rd., where Reynaldo spent mornings in their care three times a week for eight years, and to the staff of Sentara Leigh Hospital ICU for their dedicated care during his final days.
