

Sandra Lynn Collins, 51, passed away on Wednesday, October 4th, 2023. A beloved Virginia Beach native, Sandra was preceded in death by her father, George Washington West Jr., and her brother, Jeffrey Mark West.
Born in Norfolk, Virginia in 1972 to parents Melba and George, Sandra's life was marked by a deep passion for music. From a young age, she found solace and joy in singing, playing the piano, and dancing.
She graduated from Kempsville High School in the class of 1990, where she also made her mark as a member of the rifle team. Her dedication and talent were evident in her school years.
Sandra went on to achieve academic success at East Carolina University, where she pursued her passion for criminal justice and became a proud member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.
In her adult life, Sandra's dedication to making a positive impact led her to a career at Allstate, where she worked for many years. Later, she transitioned to a career in education, serving as a devoted schoolteacher for both Norfolk and Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Her unwavering commitment touched the lives of countless students, leaving a lasting legacy of inspiration.
Beyond her professional life, Sandra was a gifted craftswoman, and everything she created, from scrapbooks to chocolate-covered strawberries, was a testament to her creativity and attention to detail. She was also an avid Disney enthusiast and cherished the memorable trips to Disney World with her family over the years.
Sandra will forever be remembered for her boundless kindness, her unwavering love for her family, and her remarkable strength in the face of adversity.
Sandra leaves behind her loving mother, Melba West; her sister, Melody Jacobs (Mark); her niece, Kaitlynn Plummer, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 16 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Smith & Williams Funeral Home Kempsville Chapel.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Sandra will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 1:30 pm at the same location, followed by interment at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, a cause close to Sandra's heart.
