Steven proudly served in the United States Navy for more than 24 years, retiring in 2013. His time in the Navy was one of the defining chapters of his life. He believed deeply in serving his country and took pride in the discipline, resilience, and sense of purpose that military life gave him. The Navy shaped much of who he was, making him strong-willed, independent, and determined. He carried those qualities with him long after retirement.
Steven is survived by Dana and their four children: Alexis (husband Colter), Paul (wife Sarah), Katy (fiancé Colin), and Tyler (fiancé Maggie) as well as his sister, Sharon. He was also a loving Granddaddy to eight grandchildren: Luke, Emma, Carys, Aiden, Calla, Harper, Ryleigh and Brayden. He cared deeply for his children and grandchildren and was immensely proud of each of them. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul & Bonnie Sawyer.
Steven also shared his life with his fiancé, Taylor. Together they enjoyed traveling, working out, and simply being together. He cared deeply for her two daughters, Sawyer and Harper, who held a very special place in his heart.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Smith & Williams Funeral Home.
He will be remembered and missed by his family and friends.
