Steven John Selley, 74, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away on Friday, February 20. Born in Hull, Yorkshire, England, Steve spent his early years in Newton Abbot, Devon, before building a life that spanned both sides of the Atlantic.
Steve proudly served as a Chief in the British Royal Navy. In 1980, he moved to the United States after meeting the love of his life, Sherry.
Steve worked for many years as an electrician at Smith & Keene. A stoic family man, he found joy in simple pleasures: reading, doing crosswords, working with his hands through carpentry and gardening, watching football (a loyal fan of Florida State and the Washington Redskins), and perfecting ribs on the grill.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry Selley; his daughter, Amanda (Selley) Daniel, and her husband Ryan Daniel, and their children Olivia and Emma; and his son, Ryan Selley, and his wife Lauren Selley, and their children Asher and Lucy. He is also survived by his sister Christine and brother Andrew. He was preceded in death by his sister Carol.
Steve will be remembered for his steady presence, quiet loyalty, and deep love for his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, February 26 at 2:00 PM at Smith & Williams Funeral Home in Kempsville, where family and friends are invited to gather to remember and honor Steve.
