William Thomas Patton died on March 16, 2014. He is joined in death by his cherished wife, Teresa Harmon Ingerson. He was born on Sept. 13, 1940 to William Thompson Patton and Martha Wallace Patton in Sinks Grove, West Virginia. Tom was an experienced Navy pilot and decorated war hero. After his military service, he enjoyed a long career as a financial consultant and helped many families throughout Virginia, serving with his business partner and wife, Teresa Ingerson. Everyone who knew Tom also knew his passion for running, memorialized in the many marathons he completed. Tom was a true optimist always viewing the glass as half full, a storyteller, and a breaker of things. He shared his energy and positive outlook on life with his family and many friends whom he loved. Tom was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Sarah Patton of Sinks Grove, WV; his loving sons, Travis Patton and husband Jeffrey Seese of Washington, DC, Russell Ingerson and wife Maria Silva Ingerson of Norfolk; and his daughter, Abbe Ingerson Little and husband Scott of Richmond; and his first wife, Laura Patton of Virginia Beach; as well as aunts, nieces, and cousins around the country. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 20 at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, from 5 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 21 at Virginia Heights Baptist Church, 1251 Kempsville Road, Norfolk at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the Intrepid Sea Air and Space Museum, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or a charity of your choice. She is joined in death by her cherished husband, William Thomas Patton. She was born on Jan. 27, 1952 to Paul Newell Harmon and Marlene Russ Harmon in Southport, North Carolina. An accomplished artist, Teresa enjoyed many hobbies such as cooking, reading, crafting, gardening and service to her local garden club. Throughout her career as a financial consultant she enjoyed many successes with her husband and business partner, Tom Patton. She was a lover of life, maker of friends, and mourner of broken things. She loved her family, friends, and doggies, and graced those around her with infectious laughter. Teresa was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sister, Abbe Haymaker and husband Wayne of Chesapeake; her sons, Russell Ingerson and wife Maria Silva Ingerson of Norfolk, Travis Patton and husband Jeffrey Seese of Washington, DC; and her daughter, Abbe Ingerson Little and husband Scott of Richmond; as well as uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews around the country.
