On September 10, 1938 Alice (Alida Henderika) Bos was born to Koos and Wilhelmina (Leffers) Drost in Stadskanaal in the province of Groningen of the Netherlands. She was the fifth of six (surviving) children, four girls and two boys. She lived in a home built behind the family grocery store located in Stadskanaal until she was 14 years of age. Due to the hardship and destruction resulting from the Nazi German occupation during WWII, Alice’s parents, guided by God’s providence, decided to begin a new life in the United States. The Drost family departed on a transatlantic voyage from Antwerp with the S.S. Leerdam Holland-America Line arriving at Hoboken, New Jersey on October 16, 1952. Four days later, they continued the remainder of their journey by airplane to reach their sponsored home destination in Bellflower, California. Alice attended Bellflower Christian School until graduating from high school in 1957. Afterwards, Alice worked for the Artesia Dutch Bakery to help support the family while gaining valuable operational retail store experience. God’s providence allowed Alice to meet her future husband Aleid Bos (an immigrant to the USA from the Netherlands in 1957) through various church youth group events. Their shared Christ-centered beliefs, convictions, family values, and goals for pursuing their California dream resulted in a marriage union on Veteran’s Day November 11, 1959. Together with God’s guidance, grace and mercy, Alice and her husband Aleid established both a family with four sons and one daughter and a dairy farm business with milk processing and a drive-up retail store called Dutch Premium Dairy. This business helped support their growing family over a 42-year period in both the Riverside and Ontario, California areas. After selling their dairy farm operation, Alice and Aleid moved to Visalia, California to spend their retirement years. Alice and Aleid Bos enjoyed over 65 years of marriage together, establishing and supporting many friendships in connection with church, community and family along the way. Alice Bos along with her husband testified of their gratitude for God’s grace and mercy in both bountiful and lean years of their married life together until Alice went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 26, 2025, resting peacefully with her husband and family by her side.
Alice is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Aleid Bos of Visalia, CA, along with her children: Case Bos of Visalia, CA, Alan (Tina) Bos of Ontario, CA, Ken Bos of Corona, CA, Rick (Charlotte) Bos of Visalia, CA and Maria Lynn (Robert) Balt of Sanborn, IA. Her grandchildren: Jessica Bos of Visalia, CA, Justin (Hannah) Bos of Hanford, CA, Marianne Balt of Escondido, CA, Jacqui Balt of Rochester, MN, Mikayla (Cheney) Vander Berg of Sioux Center, IA, Jenna Balt of Sanborn, IA and Natillie Bos of Ontario, CA. Her brother Herman (Henny) Drost of Ripon, CA and sister Wilma (Bill) Peloquin of Anaheim, CA. Alice Bos was loved and appreciated by many relatives and friends throughout the United States and The Netherlands.
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at Trinity United Reformed Church located at 6400 W. Walnut Avenue, Visalia, California at 10:30 a.m. on August 11, 2025. Luncheon provided in the social hall following the service.
