Throughout her lifetime, Carol was a vibrant and dedicated member of the Pratt, Bohland, and Khachigian families in Visalia. Her proudest legacy, a fact that everyone who knew her would attest to, was her children and her grandson. Her children are son, Jonathan Pratt Bohland of Exeter, and daughters, Susan Elizabeth (Bohland) Brewer of San Francisco and MaryAnn (Bohland) Matveyenko of Pacific Palisades. Two-year old grandson, Maxim Jon Matveyenko, was the light of her life, and Carol delighted in the anticipation of the arrival of her second Matveyenko grandchild in the Fall.
Carol is also survived by her mother Marian E. Pratt of Visalia, brothers Steven Pratt of Tulare and Ronnie Pratt of North Powder, Oregon, and sister Susan Franciskovich of Visalia, along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and other extended family members from the Pratt, Bohland, and Khachigian families. Additionally, she leaves behind many dear, life-long friends and colleagues. Carol was preceded in death by her father, Glenn L. Pratt, brother Gary G. Pratt, and former husband, Ronald H. Khachigian.
A second generation Visalian and fourth generation Tulare County resident, Carol was
born on July 24, 1943 to Glenn L. and Marian E. Pratt, and grew up on the family farm
north of Visalia. She was an outstanding student in the Visalia public schools and graduated from Redwood High School in 1961. She was a Registered Nurse and graduated from the COS RN Program in the early 70’s and completed her BS Degree in Nursing from CSU Fresno in 1980. Carol was devoted to her profession throughout her life, and with her keen intellect, she never lost the desire to continue her education. She was passionate about her medical career endeavors, and was an adamant advocate for patient rights. She worked as an Emergency Room nurse at KDDH and in psychiatric nursing at Kings View and Tulare View hospitals. A highlight of her many nursing activities and assignments was her participation in medical mission trips to Honduras and the Dominican Republic, which she shared with her daughters. In her later years, she offered professional senior home health care where she, without fail, gained the appreciation, love and trust of the many patients and families she served.
A bright and energetic woman, Carol was an avid reader, progressive thinker, and life-long student. Her fearless spirit and love of adventure took her (and her children) to many exciting places, and won her memorable friends and experiences across several countries. She enjoyed countless sunny hours at her beloved “casita” in Ensenada, Mexico and shared the good times with numerous family members and friends. She made lasting relationships and will be remembered and missed for her caring nature, loyalty and generosity.
