Born in Peru, Kansas on July 26, 1936 to mother Ethel Elise Gorby Hull and father Melvin Hull. In 1942 the family packed up and moved to Visalia California where they would build their home that is still in the family to this day. In his early years Gene attended Elbow Creek Elementary School, went to high school at Visalia Unified, and graduated on June 11, 1954. Right after high school he attended College of the Sequoias where he lettered in basketball and football. After college he joined the army and served three years. Upon his return he joined the U.S. Postal Service where he worked for 39 years and then joined the Tulare County Correctional Office where he worked for 12 years in the juvenile detention service center.
In 1958 he met the love of his life Mary Alice Rodriguez. A year later they were married and a year after that they welcomed their first child into the world Suzette & then Two more children would later follow; Charles Ray Hull and Russell Gene Hull.
His passions were horses and he would share that love with his daughter Suzette which would be their everlasting bond. He and his son Charles share a love of building and creating; their projects and memories will last a lifetime. His love of sports was shared with his youngest son Russell and will continue on during every Raiders game, even though Russell is a 49ers fan. These passions will continue even in his passing through his grandchildren and their children. He loved to hunt and go backpacking in the mountains, however that was his “guy time” with buddies and that would be solely his. His trophy heads hanging on the wall will continue to prove this, along with the mounds of old western books and knowledge that will be forever cherished as the pages will continue to be turned.
His love he had for his family was endless and his passion for life had no bounds.
To the kind staff and nurses at Lindsay Gardens and Kaweah Health Care District the family cannot thank you enough for all the support and care you provided.
He is survived by his sisters Ailene Phillips and Carol Hull Clevenger, along with his brother Arthur Hull, and his uncle Doyle Gorby.
