Edith was born May 31, 1932 in Watonga, Oklahoma to Charles and Edith Higgins. She was the only daughter and had six brothers. Edith enjoyed her childhood in Oklahoma going to school, taking care of her younger brothers and going to town to catch a movie at the matinee. In the mid ‘40s during the Dust Bowl in Oklahoma and the promise of prosperity drove the family to move west. She was allowed one small trunk to pack her belongings in for the trip to California. The family settled in Cutler where they found work picking cotton and cutting grapes. It was here she met the man who would become her husband, Alvin Ray Sisco. They married in 1950 and had three children – Donna, Linda and Darrell. While Ray was serving in the US Army they lived in Anchorage, Alaska and later returned to the Central Valley of California where they settled in Visalia. She loved children and often took care of her grandchildren and then later watched children for friends and neighbors.
Edith was also a bit of an entrepreneur! For a time she raised and sold dachshund dogs, also did quite well selling Avon, and developed a resale business not unlike today’s $1 store. But family was most important and she always made sure they were loved, supported and protected. She will be dearly missed
Edith was preceded in death her husband, five brothers and her daughter Linda.
She is survived by her daughter Donna Malone and son Darrell Sisco; her grandchildren Ron Jones, Sarah Parr, Pauline Strong and Leo Sisco and four step-grandchildren and her great-grandchildren Megan Parr, Dylan Parr and Victoria Parr.
