Frances was born in Visalia, CA on September 17, 1942, to Louis G. Duran and Henrietta Duran, née Cortez. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Gilbert (and spouse Roberta), brother Robert (and spouse Hortencia), brother Albert, as well as sister Carol (and spouse William).
She is survived by her husband Ramiro Torres, daughter Vivian (and spouse Anthony), daughter Sandy (and spouse Tony), son Godfrey, seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. She also leaves behind sister Pat (and spouse Don), sister Adeline (and spouse Joe), and brother George (and spouse Olivia).
Raised in Visalia, she attended Redwood High School. She met, then married the love of her life, Ramiro, in 1959. They renewed their wedding vows and celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary, blessed by Monsignor Leslie Shenoy of India. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Holy Family Catholic Church, blessed by Father Rod Craig. They celebrated their 65th anniversary on July 4, 2024.
Frances was a devout Catholic who enjoyed telling stories of walking herself to church as a little girl. She and her daughter Vivian enjoyed traveling and attending Religious Congress in Anaheim, CA and Our Lady of The Rock in California City, CA. They traveled throughout the state of CA to attend mass by Monsignor Shenoy.
Rather than seeking employment, Frances chose to raise her three children. She was always present—walking her children to the bus stop, attending school events, and chaperoning school field trips. She was a great cook and quite the seamstress. She gifted family members quilts sewn by her.
Some of her greatest joys were time spent with family, comadres and compadres, as well as music and dancing, camping, travelling, senior bingo (like her mother before her), Women’s Trade Club, Christmas trips to Laughlin, NV, and Scrabble with Bill and Carol.
Frances was loving, happy, kind, and caring. She loved and missed her “daddy and her mamma,” as she too is loved and missed dearly by her children.
A Visitation for Frances will be held on Monday, January 6, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm with Rosary at 6:00 pm at Miller Memorial Chapel 1120 West Goshen Avenue, Visalia, CA 93291. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2024 at 11:00 am at Miller Memorial Chapel followed by Interment at Visalia Public Cemetery District at 12:00 noon 1300 West Goshen Avenue, Visalia, CA 93291.
