Gladys Juanita Karas

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, John and Myrtle Dhabolt and three brothers and two sisters. She was widowed three times by Joe Pickert, Matthew Fillippi and Angelo Karas.

Gladys is survived by her son Raymond Pickert; daughter Carolee Isley; daughter-in-law Jennie Buckingham; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 23 great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gladys came from Missouri at the age of 9 years to Portland, Oregon where she attended school through the 8th grade. As the family was traveling south from Portland, they stayed in Roseburg, Oregon for a while. Gladys was a mother’s helper and learned to play the piano. They got to Sanger, California where Gladys married, had her children and was a nurse’s aide at the Old Sanger hospital. After leaving Sanger in 1957, life took it’s twists and turns so she lived in different places. Coming back to Dunlap California and the last year was spent at Bethel Lutheran Home in Selma, CA.

Gladys loved playing the piano and played in church while living in Sanger. She enjoyed being involved with Helping Hands at Church, crafts, jigsaw puzzles, reading, Bingo, fishing and baking pies for her family.

Gladys was very loving and caring and was there for anyone who needed her. She was a devout Christian and a member of the Hilltop Chapel in Miramonte, CA. Gladys loved living in Dunlap Mountains of all its beauty.

Funeral services will be held at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Avenue in Visalia on February 21, 2017 at 11 am. Burial will be at Woodlake Public Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Pallbearers to include: Raymond Pickert, Randy Anderson, David Anderson, Perry Zarr, Kyle Zarr, Alex Voyles.
