John Gonsalves Tosta

John was born in Gustine, California on October 27, 1917 to Antonio and Maria Candida Mateusinho. He married Belmira Mathias in Teceira in 1951 and they made their home there until 1978 when he retired. They moved to Hanford, California that same year and the moved to Visalia, California in 2003. John worked for over 35 years for the Department of Defense as a Power Plant Operator. He enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycles and rode until his mid 80’s. John enjoyed fishing when he lived in Portugal. He never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone. John especially enjoyed his family. John was the last of seven siblings living. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Belmira; two daughters, Elsie Tosta and Ina Tosta, both of Visalia; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 7, 1916 from 5:30 – 6:30 with rosary beginning at 6:30 pm at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Avenue in Visalia. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Visalia. Burial will follow at Visalia District Cemetery.
