Was born march 18 1958, in Exeter California to Tomas and Mary Avilez.
Jose graduated from Woodlake high school where he played on the Tiger football team. He was employed for many yeas in construction and was recently employed by El Primer Paso in Visalia, until it closed. Jose quickly became self employed putting his skills and talents to use and soon became the “Joe Fix-it” of the neighborhood. He would always say he could put “Tim the Tool Man” to shame.
He was very humorous and always had a story or a joke to share, whether you wanted to listen or not. He also enjoyed listening and singing along to the oldies and would sometimes break out in a dance bringing laughter to those around. Jose had many friends, He was a protective brother and friend who cared about the well being of others and would help with whatever he could. Everyone who knew Jose would assure you he was an amazing person.
Jose is survived by sisters, Jessie Avilez, Helen Avilez, Victoria Avilez, Sylvia Avilez and Gloria and Eusebio Rodriguez, Brothers, Tomas Avilez and Louie Avilez and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Rachel Rodriguez, sister-in –law, Patsy Avilez and nephew, Louie “Bubba” Smith.
The family would like to thank the firemen who risked their lives, and the community who came together to offer their support. Jose will be missed by all who knew him as is evident by all those who have been coming by his home lighting candles and offering prayers. His memory will remain forever in our hearts.
