Joe passed away in his home after a lengthy illness on Monday, February 8, 2016. He was born on March 15, 1961 in Fresno, California to his proud parents, Joan and Joe Fischer. He lived most of his life in Visalia except for a brief period in Berryville, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his Father, Joe, and will be terribly missed by his Mother, Joan, and his faithful wife, Aurora, his two sisters, Kathleen Fischer and Karen Yohannes (John). Joe has three daughters, Ashley Pendegraft (Sascha), Sarah Fischer, and Amy Orique (Mike). He is survived by 4 grandchildren, Chloe, Kari, and Sophie Pendegraft and Carson Orique. He will be warmly remembered by many Aunts, Uncles, nieces and a nephew as well as many cousins.
Joe had a life-long love of the outdoors. Having been a Boy Scout, he enjoyed backpacking, fishing, and hunting. Joe shot trap competitively and won many awards for his shooting skills. He was a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association, the National Trappers Association, and the Tulare County Trap Club.
Joe attended Visalia public schools and graduated from Mount Whitney High School in 1979. He also attended the College of the Sequoias. He worked in the family business driving trucks and later went into farming. He also started his own trucking business and was a long-line trucker for several years. As a long-line trucker, he enjoyed the many sights and sounds of our great land.
Joe enjoyed going to football and baseball games. It was always fun to be with him at games, because of the great enthusiasm he showed for his favorite teams. He especially loved the Fresno State Bulldog football and baseball teams. Joe loved fireworks. In later years, he loved driving his Rhino in the country and hunting in the foothills near his home. He spent long hours sitting on his front porch enjoying the panorama of his beloved Sierra Nevada mountains.
He was a humble man who enjoyed simple pleasures. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 3 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 608 N. Church in Visalia, CA.
