Better known as MeeMa or Aunt Vicki; Lonetta June Price was born at home in Oklahoma on February 11, 1932 to Lawrence Fredrick Price and Ruby Lera Hendrix. The family relocated during the Great Depression to Goshen, CA in 1939. Vicki attended Goshen Elementary School & Visalia High School.
At just 17 years old her mother, Ruby, passed away from Leukemia leaving Vicki to help raise her three younger brothers; Bobby Don, Wendell James, and Ronnie Lee; all of whom she loved and adored.
Much like her father, Lawrence, she had a lifelong love for music and dancing. Just months before her passing, during the families Christmas get-together, Vicki was two-stepping with her sister-in-law, Edna Price, while her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren looked on – some even joining in on the fun. As an immense George Straight fan, Vicki even kept a cardboard cutout of the music legend in her home. One of her favorite songs was “Baby Blue” which could have been written about her based on her bright blue eye color.
Vicki is survived by her 3 children Terri Guzman (Larry Guzman Sr.), Sandy Lynch (Kelly Lynch), and Tom Cotta (Laurie Akers). They meant the world to her as did her 6 grandchildren; Lera “Nikki” Beck (Brian), Jason Lynch (Felisha), Larry Guzman, Jr., Hollie Tisthammer (Josh), Jacob Cotta, and Thomas Zachary Cotta. In addition she leaves behind 10 great grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews.
Vicki did not like to just sit at home, unless a ballgame was on, and could be found at the Public Library, local craft stores, or helping out her grandchildren. As a caregiver by nature Vicki cared for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren until just months prior to her passing. Babysitting, housekeeping, and running kids from here to there were things she enjoyed being able to do even into her 80’s. She took great pride in her grandchildren and loved being able to help.
Despite being the favorite Aunt and Grandma, Vicki could pack a punch (literally) and was not one to be messed with. She kept a neat and tidy house and often bribed grandchildren into completing chores such as dusting her collection of glass birds or raking mounds and mounds leaves. Her grandchildren to this day try to hold the title of “the favorite” and would settle the argument by counting the amount of photos displayed in her perfectly decorated home. Every season and holiday were flawlessly represented throughout Vicki’s home and she spent a great deal of time at local hobby stores searching for deals on festive items to display. In addition to decorations, sweets were always present at MeeMa’s house much to her great grandchildren’s liking.
Vicki was as patriotic as they come and especially proud of the vast number of family members serving in each branch of the United States military. She proudly displayed all of their portraits in her home along with a towering flag pole out front complete with our nations and military flags.
A book lover, country music fan, and an avid San Francisco Giants enthusiast, Vicki will forever be remembered as strong, independent, and sometimes stubborn. At her request, a private burial for family will be held on July 15, 2016. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Toys for Tots or your local Hospice Care providers.
