

Michael Dean Prettyman, sometimes called “Gramps”, was born January 13, 1934 in Visalia, California to Walter and Claire Prettyman. He died October 3, 2011 in Fresno due to complications stemming from a former stroke and pneumonia.
Michael is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Darlene. They met while attending Visalia Union High School. Michael and Darlene lived for awhile in Sacramento, Ivanhoe, Bakersfield and recently moved to Clovis, to be closer to their family.
Michael is survived by his sons, Melvin and Michael and his wife Anne; daughter, Melissa McClaran and husband Glen, and nine grandchildren, Michael Dean Prettyman III, Philip Prettyman, Rachael Reeder, Jessica Reeder, Maurice McClaran, Mac McClaran, Gavin McClaran, Chris McClaran and his wife Lindsay. He is also survived by his sister and friend Patricia Herkimer.
He was preceded in death by his son Matthew in l976
Michael served in the US Air Force and was stationed at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento where he worked as a flight mechanic. Following his discharge Michael was employed as a Rocket Test Technician at Aerojet General and while in Bakersfield worked in insurance field.
Michael was loved by those who knew him for his sense of humor, his ability to fix anything and his willingness to use those abilities to help his children and/or their friends. The house was always filled with young people who came to him for advice and to share “stories”. He was a great story teller and there were many stories to tell.
He leaves behind many, many friends.
He will be missed.
