

Nancy Leigh Kunzman was born on January 1, 1928 in Toledo, Ohio to Walter and Jean Pearson. She had one brother, Walter Loyal Pearson who preceded her in death. She graduated from Anamosa High School (Anamosa, IA) in 1945 and Iowa State Teachers College. She was married to Charles Brooks Handy in 1950. She later married Richard A. Kunzman in Iowa and they moved to Visalia, CA in 1954.
Nancy and her husband, Richard owned Houston Avenue Liquor Store in Visalia for many years. Nancy was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Visalia Emblem Club and held offices in both organizations. She loved the California missions and served as a docent at the Sonoma Mission for several years. She enjoyed traveling, music, attending plays, and was an avid reader. In her mid-50’s she and her husband, Richard, enjoyed traveling in their RV and traveled across the United States. They subsequently moved to Pismo Beach, where they built and ran Price Street Market. They later moved to the Bay area and lived in Sonoma, CA for a number of years. She loved her dogs, especially her beloved dog, Tiffany. She was a wonderful mother to both of her children and supported them in their many activities such as dance, music and competitive horseback riding.
Nancy is survived by her daughters, Leigh Elliott of Visalia and Conde Kunzman of Anderson, CA, two granddaughters, Lisa Vandegrift of Visalia and Amanda Weissman of Fresno, three great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.
We would like to thank Evergreen Assisted Living in Visalia for the compassionate, excellent care they provided Nancy in her final years. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for any donations to be sent to Optimal Hospice, 2439 W. Whitendale Ave., Suite B, Visalia, CA 93277 in Nancy’s name.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 9, 2016 at the Heritage Chapel located on the Visalia Cemetery grounds.
