
Samuel Dawson Rose was born in Cañon City, Colorado on May 7, 1920. He was the son of Harry and Vada Rose. He came to Ivanhoe, Ca. in 1926. Dawson attended schools in Ivanhoe and in Visalia and was in the first graduating class from COS. In World War II Dawson was a B-54 pilot in the US Air Force. He spent two years as a POW in Italy and in Germany. He retired as a Major of the US Air Force. Dawson married Ruth Sullivan on July 5, 1945 in Visalia. He was a building contractor while also pursuing his passion for farming. He farmed for a number of years in the Taurusa District, and moved to Visalia in 1963. Dawson was a member of the Sequoia Antique Bottle Club and the American Legion. Dawson and Ruth have two sons, Terry and Jack Rose, both of Visalia. They also have a granddaughter, three grandsons and six great grandchildren. Dawson was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Findley and Charles. He is survived by his wife Ruth Rose and his brother Harry Rose, Jr. of Visalia. Services will be held at Visalia District Cemetery Thursday June 9th at 10 AM.
