

Thomas A. Rivers passed away September 1, 2010. He was born in Visalia, CA on February 19, 1926 to James B. Rivers and Elmina Sullivan Rivers. He graduated from Redwood High School and attended College of the Sequoias. Tom was a veteran of both WWII and the Korean Conflict. His love and respect for his country was of great importance to him. He was a member of the Visalia Elks, Roma Lodge of Tulare and the American Legion.
He married Lorraine Pifferini in 1950. They were married 58 years until her passing in 2008. Tom was a loving, caring husband who took care of his wife her last years. He worked for the Tulare County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator for 28 years. Tom was an outdoors man who loved to hunt, fish, and garden. He also took great pleasure in playing cards with friends and he loved to dance. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Agnes Grogan of Shell Beach, brother-in-law, Richard Stockle of Fresno; his nephews and nieces, Don and Betty Rivers, Rick and Nanette Stockle, Jerry Stockle, Debra Stockle, Michael and Stephanie Grogan, Patricia G. Reese, and 12 great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lorraine (Diddy), brother, Donald Rivers and sister, Betty Jean Banton.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the kind staff at Westgate Gardens, to Optimal Hospice whose care in his final days provided him comfort, and to the visits of many friends and family. Remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice. Thank you also to Miller Memorial for help and assistance in final arrangements.
Visitation will be held at Miller Memorial on Thursday, September 9th, 3-7 p.m. with graveside services with military honors on Friday, September 10th, 11:00 a.m. at the Pavilion located at the Visalia District Cemetery. Condolences may be offered at www.millerchapel.com
