Ysmael Serrano was born on November 17, 1932 in Faben Texas. He was 86 years old. His parents are Lucianna and Ascension Serrano. Ysmael was the 6th of 12 children. Ysmael married Virginia Huerta on January 1, 1952. They had 7 children, Jerry, Sue Anne, Ysmael Jr., Arthur, Della, David and Virginia. They also have 21 grand kids, 41 great grand kids and 6 great great grand kids.
Ysmael completed up to the 8th grade in school. He, like many others, started working in the fields to help support the family.
He moved to the Bay Area and worked with his older brothers at Winslow Machine Shop. This was the start of being a Machinist Trainee. He eventually became a Journeyman Machinist and finally a Maintenance Machinist. With his vast knowledge and experience in this profession, he was able to invent different items which helped and improve various projects throughout his working career. He could also disassemble and rebuild automobile engines, which he did many times.
Early in his working career, he lived in Oakland and San Leandro but eventually moved and lived in Hayward for more than 30 years. He was employed by United Can for 30 years before retiring in 1994. He and his wife, Virginia moved to Goshen California to retire. Early in his retirement, he built a machine shop in the back yard and started filling orders for different companies.
He loved taking trips to Lake Tahoe and Reno, going to the casinos, camping and fishing. He would also visit many Indian Casinos throughout California. He especially enjoyed receiving scratch lottery tickets from family. He learned how to use his Ipad to navigate social media so he could see what was going on with family and friends. In his youth, you would always find him with his guitar, playing and singing with his wife, family and friends.
He always said to his family that he was given a good and happy life which he gave thanks and praise to our Heavenly Father. The family will miss him dearly.
