He had two sisters, Marjorie and Juanita and two brothers, Robert and Claude Lockhart, Jr.
Mr. Lockhart was predeceased by his wife, Geraldine; two of his sons, Daniel “Danny” and David; and his two brothers, Robert and Junior.
Growing up in rural America during the 1930's was no easy task, but we all believe it laid the ground work for Gene's excitement for life. Gene never met a stranger and he had a zest for life and friends.
Gene married Geraldine Shutts in 1950 and soon started a family. Having four sons, Daniel, Donald, David and Dwight “Eddie”, he and Geraldine definitely had their hands full.
Gene had a wonderful and full life. He farmed, he worked as a surveyor, he started many business ventures in his life, but none more fulfilling than the fresh fruit and vegetable business he and his wife and boys ran for over thirty years. The family moved to South Carolina in 1958 and had their business on the S.C. State Farmers Market.
After retiring, Geraldine and Gene traveled wherever they wanted to. From Alaska to every state in the continental U.S. they enjoyed the people, the places, and the things that they did together.
They soon found their way to Melbourne Beach, FL where they settled in for the next 30 plus years. Gene loved to fish and did so almost every day. He and his wife volunteered with the American Red Cross Emergency Team for the State of Florida for many years, even receiving a plaque and award from President Bush for their service.
Between his two remaining sisters, sons, daughters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the countless people that met Gene, there will be a void that will be impossible to fill.
We will all miss you.
